Book Suggestion:
Interesting Books for you in mind

Hi my name is Danielle and I made this site to express my love for books. I wanted to show books I have read and found good or bad on a scale of 1 to 10 (This is my opinion others may think differently). This site is where you can look at books to read now or in the future that are interesting and could become one of your personal favorites. I have personally read all the books I list, and it will be updated every time I finish a book. I have always notice that finding a good book is hard to find, because there are so many out there.  So it brings me pleasure to seek out some hidden treasures so that others can read them, and truly enjoy a good book.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my site and please feel free to introduce others to my site.

Dead In The Family by: Charlaine Harris

Picture
Here is another adventure with Sookie and her gang of vampires, wolves, and other mystical creatures in Louisiana. I find that each book Charlaine Harris writes it makes me want to read more and more. This book just brought back that wonderful feeling with all the twists and turns you can't wait for what happens next. I can only say another book needs to be released soon.

Recommendation: 8/10

The Reckoning by: Kelley Armstrong

Picture
When I found this trilogy I thought to myself, "why not read this," well I am so glad I did. I fell in love with these books, and the character in it Chloe I can relate to her in so many levels. This is sadly the last book of the trilogy, and it was definitely well represented. There is so many twists and turns that erupt in this book it always keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. I finished this book in three days and that was because I was trying to read slowly, if I could recommend a trilogy this would be it.

Recommendation: 9/10

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by: Seth Grahame-Smith

Picture
When I heard that Seth Grahame-Smith was writing another book I was estatic. Pride Predjudice & Zombies was all I could talk about for like two months, so when I bought this book I was reading it instantly. Abraham Lincoln is already an interesting person in real life and adding vampires to the picture just made it even better. Picturing "Honest Abe" as a vampire hunter doesn't seem that far off the truth when reading this book.

Recommendation: 8/10

The Heretics Daughter by: Kathleen Kent

Picture
This is another author who has a distant relation to one of the accused during the Salem witch trials. I have read multiple historical fictions about this event, and found this one to be very graphic and worth reading. This book is not a very happy one, because most of the events are wrapped around witch craft and the wrongly accused.

'Recommendation: 7/10

The Morning Gift by: Eva Ibbotson

Picture
This was another book I found for a dollar at a bookstore, and thought hey I have a dollar why not. This story was based during W.W.II and was about a part Jewish girl named Ruth. It is a very interesting love story that I didn't expect when I first started reading. I didn't much like the ending to the story, because I thought it to bland and predictable but that is just my opinion.

Recommendation: 5/10

Dry by: Augusten Burroughs

Picture
Augusten Burroughs is the writer of Running with Scissors, which is a story of his life up to a certain point. Dry is his life in his twenties, and he continues his bizarre tale of his life. I love to think how crazy and unreal his life seems when reading, but for him its his everyday life. I hope that people read this with an open mind, and don't attempt to try anything he does in his book.

Recommendation: 7/10

The Charleston Vampire by: Steve Brown

Picture
Lately vampires have been a big hit in books today, and with this book there is a little change. Instead of the whole book being about vampires and them falling in love, its all about a voyage to America.  A boat called the "Mary Stewart" is set sail for America with a gang of the first vampires to be in America. The protagonist is a scullery maid that has no clue of vampires, and no explanation why she is going on this voyage. You get the first hand experience of being on a boat with horny seamen, and rich passengers who feel the effects of sea sickness and pirates.

Recommendation: 8/10

The Illuminator by: Brenda Rickman Vantreage

Picture
The Illuminator is a very depressing  book from start to finish. It starts with a widowed Baroness just trying to keep her home afloat in the 1400's. There is religion, sex, love, betrayal, and death throughout this book, and suspense is on every page. I am not a friend of religious books so I found certain parts a little dry for my liking. I really do enjoy how graphic this author portrays the 1400's when England was in a state where religion ruled all, and the fruedral system was in shambles.

Recommendation: 6.5/10

Mistress of the Revolution by: Catherine Delors

Picture
To those of you who really enjoy historical fiction like I do, I am glad to say that this is the book to read. The book is based in France during the time of the French Revolution. The book has a main protagonist who experiences the effect of the Revolution first hand. I loved the graphic detail of what was happening throughout the book there was plenty of blood and sex. When reading it painted a perfect picture of the peace then havoc of that time, and one woman who was just trying to survive.

Recommendation: 8/10

The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by: Eva Rice

Picture
This was another of my random buys at the bookstore, I didn't think anything special would come from this book but I was wrong. The book is based in the 1950's in England a teenage girl who finds love, friendship, and adventure during a time when everyone was getting over the war. I loved the plot and found the book extremely hard to put down, the characters are what make the book something special. This story made me want to live in the 1950's and dress in a Chanel evening gown and pearls, and dance at a ball. Also I wish I could contact the author and beg her to make a sequel, because I really wish to find out what happens next.

Recommendation: 9/10

Witch & Wizard by: James Patterson

Picture
When I bought this book I knew it was a pre-teen based book, so I took my reviewing lightly.  I liked the lay out of the book with two teen aged siblings finding out they have magical powers. The book to me I found very predictable, but if they do come out with a sequel to this I will buy it just to find out what happens. Don't let this review discourage you from reading, because it was a good book especially for pre-teens, I just thought there would be more to the plot.

Recommendation: 7/10

Year of Wonders by: Geraldine Brooks

Picture
I have always been especially interested in diseases, and when I saw that this book was based on a plagued town in England I had to have the book.  I started reading and knew that I had a really good book there are so many different twist and turns to this book.  The plague is described in its perfect state, with all the "ring around the rosie" charm.  The story was actually based off of a real small town in England that was plagued, so the author tried to bring as much of the real story into her own.

Recommendation: 9/10

Girl, Interrupted by: Susanna Kaysen

Picture
I was really attracted to this book, because I am absolutely in love with the movie. As soon as I started reading I figured out that the book and the movie are different.  There are certain parts to the story that are not the same, but it does not in any way ruin the book. I found that Susanna Kaysen really painted a perfect picture into the world of being crazy in the 1960's. If you love psychology and in some way you are intrigued by insanity you will love this book. I am definitely going to read this book again so that I really can know her story better.

Recommendation: 8.5/10

Sellevision by: Augusten Burroughs

Picture
This book is about a dysfunctional work place in a home shopping station called "Sellevision." Augusten Burroughs brings humor, sex, and drama into a work environment. I really enjoyed reading this and found myself laughing out loud without thinking about it.

Recommendation: 7.5/10

Sam's Letters to Jennifer by: James Patterson

Picture
This was my first James Patterson book that I bought, and it did not disappoint me. I found this book made me very emotional and had to find tissues at some points in the story.  I found the plot very compassionate and heartfelt. I really liked the feeling of anticipation and wondering when Jennifer would read the next letter. I am definitely going to read another book by James Patterson.

Recommendation: 5.5/10

The Rules of Gentility by: Janet Mullany

Picture
When I went to the book store I walked by a box that said, "Books on Sale" and I thought why not grab a cheap book and save some cash. Well I picked this book, because I loved the front (I know don't read a book by its cover) and boy am I glad I did. I started reading this thinking it would be a book I could read slowly on a lazy day I was having, little did I know this book was absolutely amazing and I finished it in one day. The author Janet Mullany's story can be compared to Jane Austen, because she writes about romance and love, but Mullany adds a modern approach to her work. It is a love story that I really fell in love with, and am so happy I grabbed this book from that box.  When you read the story you will also love the names of the two lovers they are so perfect for the characters. Historical Fiction lovers eat your heart out.

Recommendation: 10/10

Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters by: Jane Austen & Ben H. Winters

Picture
If you thought Pride & Prejudice & Zombies was good then your definitely going to think this is just as good. I am a hugh fan of Jane Austen, when I first heard of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, I was really hoping they would bring her other masterpieces into the bizarre. Sure enough I was walking into Books-a-million and see this book I instantly grabbed the book, and jumped up and down (I'm a dork for books lol). When I started I was brought right back into the Dashwood family and the best part was they had sea monsters attacking. I took my time reading this book, because I was comparing the original with this new piece and loving how they could incorporate the sea monsters so well.

Recommendation: 8.5/10

Devoured by: Amanda Marrone

Picture
When I started reading this I had no idea what I was getting into, and oh boy am I glad I didn't. This book had so many twist and turns in the plot that it made me not even put the book down to go to the bathroom. I finished this book in 8 hours, because I had to take a shower. I love Amanda Marrone for making this witty and absolutely creative book that adds Snow Whites tale. This I can tell you will bring love, family, and murder all in a book just for you.

Recommendation: 8.5/10

Catching Fire by: Suzanne Collins

Picture
I have patiently waited for this book to be released, and when it was I read it in one day. Suzanne Collins is a writing genius, and I truly want to kiss her for writing about the Hunger Games.  The two books she has written are destine to be amazing movies, and for now I am happy just losing myself in the books. If you haven't read The Hunger Games or Catching Fire get your butt to a book store and get them they are brilliant!

Recommendation: 10/10

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell by: Susanna Clarke

Picture
When I looked at this book at the store I thought that the reviews looked good, and not many books are written about magicians so I was intrigued. To my dismay the book was extremely dull and I could not get into the book to read it, this is why the book took me almost two months to read. The ending to the story was very good, and I was very proud that I finished the book.

Recommendation: 1/10

The Physick of Deliverance Dane by: Katherine Howe

Picture
This book I just grabbed,  because it was on the newly released book shelf. The cover of the book makes you interested to read, I know your not suppose to read a book by its cover. The cover completely reads this book,  this is a mystery.  It starts with a woman named Connie who goes to her grandmothers abandon house to clean it out and sell it. Well she finds a mystery dating back to the Salem witch trails. I love history and the book just screams 1692.

Recommendation: 8/10

Dear John by: Nicholas Sparks

Picture
I read this book before I found out they were going to make a movie, and I'm happy Channing Tatum is playing John because the part really suits him.  I really dislike books that break my heart, because I get so into books this one really tore my heart in two.  Nicholas Sparks has a way with words and love in his stories which the world found out really from The Notebook. I neither liked nor disliked this book, but I think its because I was so crushed by the book almost like it was my own life (pathedic I know). So don't let my opinion stop you from enjoying a well written book, but I did worn you.

Recommendation: 5/10

The Time Traveler's Wife by: Audrey Niffenegger

Picture
Reading this book I will admit I wanted to see if it was like the movie, and there are changes from the book to movie. This was a tear jerker I would relate it to books such as, "The Notebook" and "P.S. I love you."  I enjoy some love stories, and this one was good.

Recommendation: 6.5/10

Sookie Stackhouse Novels by: Charlaine Harris

Picture
These stories are nothing like the T.V. Show Trueblood. I just want to clarify that before beginning, because I don't want anyone to think they can get ahead of the show.  These books are about a woman named Sookie who's life becomes involved with the supernatural world.  With her life evolved it makes her get into a lot of predicaments.  I truly enjoyed these books. I think Charlaine Harris made an amazing character who can never get boring.

Recommendation: 10/10

Pride, Prejudice, & Zombies by: Jane Austin & Seth Grahame Smith

Picture
I noted this book in my book news page, because I'm a big fan of Jane Austin books. Seth Grahame Smith made this love story into an action packed adventure ride, but still made it full of romance. I loved the book, and it didn't even ruin Jane Austins writing brilliance.

Recommendation: 7.5/10

The Awakening by: Kelley Armstrong

Picture
This book proves that Kelley Armstrong has an amazing talent for writing.  I read this book within hours, because every page made me want more.  There is suspense, thrill, and a little lust. No doubt if you like supernatural reading this is a must.

Recommendation: 9.5/10

The Summoning by: Kelley Armstrong

Picture
This is a series that I can not wait for the next book to come out I was stuck to the book until it was finished in one day. Its about a girl who can see ghost so her family puts her in a home for kids. I can't say anymore than that, because I really want everyone to give this book a try.

Recommendations:9/10

Uninvited by: Amanda Marrone

Picture
This is another catching story by Amanda Marrone I really like reading her books.  This is about a boy who is a vampire stalking his ex girlfriend. If you like thrillers this would be the book for you.

Recommendation: 8.5/10

The Night World Series by: L.J. Smith

Picture
This series was three books, but in each book was three stories. I thought that it was an interesting topic of vampires, witches, shapeshifters, etc.  The main fact is that there is love in the stories so it kept my attention.

Recommendation: 7/10

Wuthering Heights by: Emily Bonte

This is a book that brings forth secrets of true love and conflict. This book is mentioned in Twilight (Bella's favorite book).

Recommendation:  7/10

The Revealers by: Amanda Marrone

This is about witches and their fight against vampires, werewolves, demons, and ghost.  It is a very thrilling book that you can't get your hands off of. I finished in one night.  I thought this book full of surprises it almost makes you want to be a witch.

Recommendation: 8/10

Secrets of the Tudor Court: The Pleasure Palace by: Kate Emerson

A story about Jane a royal servant. This you get the inside feel of what happened in the Tudor Court all the scandals, sex, and traditions.  This book helps you to visualize what the Tudor Court was like and the author is very accurate on her historical information.

Recommendation: 6/10

The Portrait of a Lady by: Henry James

This story is about a young woman from America who wants to be an individualist. She travels to England and meets her distant family.  It is a novel of the challenges of  being an individual woman in a world of deceit. I found it a very dry book to read especially when it gets in the middle of the story.

Recommendation: 3.5/10

Through A Glass Darkly by: Karleen Koen

This is one of my favorite books. It is exceptionally long, but amazing in detail of life during that time.  Barbara is the main character she is from a wealthy family. She is raised by her grandmother a Duchess. You live through a glamorous and scandalous life style with Barbara.

Recommendation: 9/10

There is also a prequel and sequel to this book.
Sequel: Now Face to Face
This is going on about Barbara's life it is full of the economic downfall of England, and the new lifestyle of America. It is sure to keep you reading.

Recommendation: 9/10

Prequel: Dark Angel
This book is before Barbara was thought of during the youth of Alice Verney or as you'll learn to know her the Duchess. This presents her life in court and how she falls madly in love. This is my favorite out of all books, but you must read in order.

Recommendation: 10/10

The Hunger Games by: Suzanne Collins

An absolutely amazing thriller!  This is the type of book you are craving more. Its about a girl name Catniss who has a life of of excitement when winning the chance to be in the Hunger Games.  Please, Please, Please read this amazing book I learned about this book from Stephanie Meyers ( author of Twilight). You will not regret reading this.

Recommendation: 10/10

Twilight Books by: Stephanie Meyers

These are the enchanting story of Bella and Edward.  A passionate love affair to make any girl or woman wish that they were in high school and in love with Edward Cullen.  These are probably the best books to read, because everyone falls in love with them.

Recommendation: 10/10

Wicked by: Gregory Maguire

The book behind the Wicked Witch of the West.  This is something I found really interesting, because it was graphic and helped you sympathize with the Wicked Witch of the West. It also contains love and some adventure.

Recommendation: 6/10

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by: Gregory Maguire

Get a real look of Cinderella from an Ugly Stepsisters point of view.  This puts you in a new perspective of beautiful sweet Cinderella or is she what you may think?

Recommendation: 6.5/10

Mirror, Mirror by: Gregory Maguire

Get the scoop of the Beautiful Snow White and how she really live her life.  It isn't all sunshine and rainbows for her.  I found this to be a little boring in the middle, but as soon as you get towards the end it starts getting really good.

Recommendation: 5/10

Redeeming Love by: Francine Rivers

I'm not usually the one to read Christian Romance books, but I kind of just grabbed this book at the book store. I'm not sad that I did this, because once you start reading it is a very enjoyable book once you look past all the religious terms.  Its about a woman named Angel who is a prostitute in the West of the United States in the eighteen hundreds, and her life with a christian man who wants her to love.

Recommendation: 5.5/10

Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper Case Closed by: Patricia Cornwell

If you have ever been interested in Jack the Ripper and the mystery behind it this is the book for you.  I started reading this and it gives you all the information of the Ripper killings.  The author also believes she has found the real killer and explains her case.  There is actual pictures in the book of the bodies and letters from the Ripper killings.

Recommendation: 7/10

The Good Earth by: Pearl S. Buck

This was one of Oprah's Book Club books, and I thought it would be a good book to sit down with... well I was sadly informed.  I was not truly intrigued by this book.  It is about a life for a poor farmer who works the field in China. It shows a rough life can turn into a splendid, rich life. In the book there is opium, whore houses, and life in China.

Recommendation: 3.5/10

Harry Potter by: J.K. Rowling

These books are world wide and absolutely amazing. It is encouraged to read all the books (THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE MOVIES!).  I found these books enjoyable when I was younger, and I still enjoy them today.  This book is about Harry James Potter a wizard prodigy. He goes through a life trying to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort. You won't regret it if you start reading these books, its never to late.

Recommendation: 9/10

The Apprentice by: Tess Gerritsen

Here is a murder story of a detective name Jane Rizzoli who thinks she is just going to a murder scene, but finds out it is just like the one she had seen years before (The Surgeon is a book before this if your interested to learn about the case). Jane is scared, but knows she put away the Surgeon in prison.  This is Jane trying to find the killer and she experiences a lot of fear and survival.  I found this book boring in the beginning, but it spices up in the end sure to keep you on your feet.

Recommendation: 6.5/10

Running with Scissors by: Augusten Burroughs

This is a book you won't believe is true!  When I first read this I had to read it again to really believe this was a true story it is that amazingly weird.  In the story this boy moves in with a dysfunctional family and is raped by a older man and enjoys it.  He knows he's gay, but the life he lives is made to be a book.

Recommendation: 9/10
